The Grade 4 students took a walk through our naturalization area this morning. The focus of the book walk was connected to Orange Shirt Day. Ask your child what they thought the overall message of the book was.

  I feel like I matter when…

  • I help others feel like they matter by…

  • It is important to wear an orange shirt on this day because…

  • What does wearing an orange shirt mean to you?

  • How can we show kindness and support to Indigenous people today?

A few guiding questions you may wish to discuss with your child in support of Orange Shirt Day.

Please be sure to check out the beautiful feather wings outside the library hall tonight at Meet the Teacher. It is a photo opportunity you don't want to miss out on.

The students listened to The Giving Tree this afternoon as they worked on their individual feathers for the larger set of wings which will be displayed at the front of the school during Meet the Teacher night this Thursday.  If you are able to wear orange on Thursday, please do so.

Due to the rainy weather our Terry Fox run was postponed until further notice (hopefully next week).

The wolves learned about a new website called Solve Me Puzzles while the Dragons were preparing for the assembly. The wolves then took on a teaching role and partnered with a Dragon to teach them how to do these puzzles. Check out the website when you can and see how far you can get.

Our students worked hard to determine 9 key character traits that best connect with Terry Fox. We printed in pencil and then painted our BIG and Beautiful words before hanging them up around the school for all students to read and contribute to by writing or drawing how they personally connect to the word.

This morning the Dragons and Wolves played 20 Questions with the teachers. The object they were asked to guess was a GIANT zucchini. You won't believe your eyes.... check out the size.

The students discussed a variety of ways in which we can use this GIANT zucchini. The students came up with these ideas:

1.slice it raw and have a taste test
2.use it for zucchini muffins or loaf
3.plant the seeds in our garden
4.slice it and cook it with seasoning

We also showed the students a LARGE beet root. The students noticed that the leaves were drooping and required additional water therefore we set up a time lapse video of the beet root in water. We hope the additional water will help the beet root leaves regain life once again.

Room 13/14 focused a chunk of their morning brainstorming character traits describe Terry Fox. We narrowed the list down to these 9:

focused
brave
kind
strong
perseverance
hopeful
goal setting
positive
hardworking

Students will be working in the afternoon to create giant banners to support the communicate of these traits to the school community.

This morning Room 13/14 listened to the teachings of John Muir Law, a nature journalist. Our focus was focused on the 3 different languages words, pictures, and numbers. Check out our work from this morning.

We also started Place Value in Math. We reviewed place value up to the hundred thousands position and then played Last Man Standing. Ask your child how to play the game.

We introduced mapping as well by listing the requirements of a map. These include symbols, scale, compass rose, labels, title.
