Happy Halloween!!!

Please be advised that tomorrow is Halloween and we are asking students to wear appropriate outfits for school. This means no blood or gore and no masks that cover the face. We wouldn't want students to be wearing a mask and trip and fall before heading out for a fun evening.

The students have been learning about bats this week. Ask your child about the facts they discovered this week.

During math, we are focusing on factors, multiples, prime and composite. We are creating factor rainbows to determine the. number of factors for each number. From this task, students can then determine if a number is prime or composite. We recommend students work on their basic multiplication fact recall on a daily basis to assist with the understanding of these concepts.

The students used their estimation strategies to determine how many seeds are within their selected pumpkin. Students made estimations based on what they observe from the outside first and then again when the lid was taken off. Next week we will do the big REVEAL and perhaps taste a few roasted pumpkin seeds.

This week the students were looking at the meaning of the word 'identity'. We brainstormed a list of factors that contribute to the formation of one's identity.

These include:

-gender

-religion

-friends and family

-lifestyle/hobbies/interests

-culture background

-spoken language

Students will take their person list of what describes their identity and create sentences to answer the question: What does it mean to be an Albertan?

We are on Day 2 of our repurposing building project. Ask your child how their building project is going.

Room 13/14 are starting their re-purposing building task today. The planning stage went well and the ideas are so creative and unique.

The students also started a Monster Exchange Challenge. Students will be applying their understanding of texture to the creation of a monster. Students will also be working on descriptive language as they write a structured paragraph about their personalized monster.

PJ/Stuffy Day is Thursday.

Just a reminder there is no school on Friday.
